Abstract

This article has been prepared as a response to Professor B. Buchberger's invitation to each member of the program committee of EUROCAL 85 to write a short paper on his or her view of the future of the symbolic and algebraic computation, especially within the context of the individual's special field of interest. In my case, this interest is centered around the topic of multidimensional systems theory, and my viewpoints on the present and potential impact of symbolic and algebraic computation on this subject are briefly summarized below.
