A buffer management technique for 3D image-based rendering on mobile devices

Published: 02 October 2006 Publication History

Abstract

In order to utilize 3D image-based rendering technology on mobile devices, an efficient local buffer management schema is required to cope with the large set of data used by image-based rendering algorithms, communication errors, communication latency, and virtual movements of the user. In this paper, we present a robust mechanism for managing a local reference image buffer on mobile devices. Our proposed technique is generic because we do not put any restrictions on the actual rendering algorithm. Experiment results show that the proposed technique is robust toward communication errors.
