ABSTRACT
We have built a wireless mesh network testbed, which is tolerant of disaster and aim to resolve a digital divide issue in rural mountain areas. This testbed is located in two areas and has total 22 nodes which are installed on the power poles in these areas. Two areas are connected to a control server at Niigata university with broadband wireless access systems using 5 GHz band via a gate way node at the local-government office, which is located at the center of two areas. Each node has two wireless LAN interfaces with IEEE 802.11b/g and a wireless LAN access point. We measure the throughput and the packet transmission successful ratio of links in our testbed. Moreover, we investigate the technical issues to manage and operate the mesh network in the rural mountain areas.

Multi-channel Busy-tone Multiple Access for Scalable Wireless Mesh Network
AINAW '07: Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops - Volume 02This paper proposes a multi-channel medium access control (MAC) protocol for wireless mesh networks (WMNs) by using busy tones to prevent data packet collisions at data channels. Multi-channel MAC schemes can achieve higher network throughput than ...
Performance analysis of wireless mesh networks with three sector antennas
IWCMC '10: Proceedings of the 6th International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing ConferenceA wireless mesh network (WMN) is one of important applications for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). Most researches about WMN employ IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN in wireless links. IEEE 802.11 supports multiple channels. Performance improvement strategies ...
Design and Construction of a Prototype Secure Wireless Mesh Network Testbed
WAINA '10: Proceedings of the 2010 IEEE 24th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications WorkshopsWireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a promising broadband wireless network architecture. Security is an important component of the WMN architecture but is not fully considered so far. In this paper, we introduce a prototype secure wireless mesh network ...
