ABSTRACT
Empirical software engineers can impact the state of software engineering practice by providing solid and convincing evidence of the utility and effectiveness of existing, emerging, and new software development practices in a certain context. Empirical software engineers can also impact software engineering practice by mining data to create verifiable and repeatable models that are useful for the implementation, evaluation, and management of software processes and projects. Additionally, empirical software engineers can impact their colleagues' ability to be impactful and to have a successful career by sharing data, collaborating, providing constructive feedback, and being synergistic. Finally, empirical software engineering faculty can impact the lives of their students through support and guidance. This keynote will explore seven habits for being impactful in these ways.
