Welcome to ACM AVI 2014, the 12th edition of the Working Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces, hosted by Politecnico di Milano at the Como campus, with its charming location and its lake.
Started in Rome in 1992, AVI has become a biannual appointment for a wide international community of experts with a broad range of backgrounds. Through more than two decades, AVI has offered a forum to present and disseminate new technological results, new paradigms and new visions for interactive technologies and interfaces. AVI was one of the pioneer conferences focusing on understanding how people use interactive technologies, and exploring how interaction can make technology effective and useful in everyday life. In addition AVI has a distinctive feature: bridging the world of data and information research with the HCI field. AVI 2014 offers a strong scientific program that well represents current research and developments in the field. World leading researchers, from 27 different countries and 4 continents (Europe, North America, Asia, and New Zealand) will present their recent work: 3 workshops, 32 long papers, 18 short papers, 29 posters, and 14 hands-on demos.
