Online students in 2014

ABSTRACT

This paper describes a survey that was conducted in 2014 at Reykjavík University in Iceland to get a better understanding of online students' attitudes towards their education. One-hundred and seventeen students answered an on-line questionnaire, including almost the same questions as in a previous study carried out in 2009. As expected, the results showed positive attitudes towards online learning with students active in using the Internet and the learning management system (LMS). Realistic projects and recorded lectures made by teachers were considered to be the most useful options of the LMS, but new option, videos made by the teachers, were also considered useful. Although online learning places more demands on students than on-campus learning, students claim that in online studies they have more control over their lives and they are also able to work while studying.
