As the general chairs, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the ACM MobiSys 2015 PhD Forum workshop in Florence, Italy. The PhD Forum has been a regular event of the ACM MobiSys conference for the past few years. The forum supports a highly interactive environment for PhD students to present and discuss their research with students and professionals from academia and industry. It provides them with a great opportunity to get feedback on their research and build their professional network.
Twelve PhD students participate in the forum this year to present their research direction. The workshop program has been structured into two technical sessions, Pervasive Applications and Sensing, and Mobile Networking. The keynote session for the workshop will be "Lessons I learned writing MobiSys papers" by Professor Lin Zhong who won the SIGMOBILE RockStar Award last year.

Extended Abstract: Efficient Dynamic Mobile Sensing Strategies for Context-Aware Applications
The availability of a wide range of embedded and external wearable sensors enables the development of new mobile applications with rich contextual information. Unfortunately, acquiring contextual information accurately and instantly comes at the expense ...
Sensor-Cloud: Enabling Remote Health-Care services
Developing nations lack proportionate health-care delivery solutions to serve huge population. Answer to this problem is provisioning remote health-care using information & communication technologies. Earlier, we proposed a Sensor-Cloud framework aiming ...
Flexible And Effective Energy Management In Smartphones
Despite the fact that current smartphone platform incorporates efficient energy measurement tools, robust power models, and mechanisms to control energy, battery lifetime continues to frustrate users. This is because of the disconnect between "one-size-...
Energy Efficient and Fair Management of Sensing Applications on Heterogeneous Resource Mobile Devices
The widespread use of sensor-equipped smartphones and wearables has enabled the rapid growth of personal sensing applications that monitor user behavior. Examples include continuously sampling the microphone for the detection of stressed speech or ...
Gradient Profiling for Pedestrian Services
Mobile systems have long been the cause of distraction to pedestrians. Motivated by the safety challenges this distraction poses, we aim to develop a sensing technology based on smartphones and wearable devices, for fine-grained location classification ...
Smart Gateway for Low-Power Lossy Networks
Low Power and Lossy Networks (LLN) are composed of con- strained devices that auto-organize around one or few gateways. These gateways are usually traffic sink but thanks to their key location they can host energy saving services. We will see how cache ...
Urban Mobility and Networking
Understanding urban human mobility is crucial for various mobile and network applications. We address two challenges presented in these mobility-based mobile applications, namely urban mobility modelling and its applications in Delay Tolerant Networks (...
