A social media based real scene navigation system with a holographic projection on a HUD

Published:07 September 2015Publication History

ABSTRACT

We propose a real scene navigation system to display a synthesized panorama photo, which is community-contributed from the social services, e.g., Facebook or Twitter, on a HUD in a car, providing a mixed reality (MR) environment, to help a driver efficiently build the relative position coordinate. The contributions of this paper are three-fold: (1) the real scene photo is synthesized from the social media, (2) the time tagged geo-referenced photos provided from the social members are used to generate the displayed photos at the proper time, and (3) a mobile device adopted to display the real scene photos on the HUD with the MR experience can improve the navigation efficiency.
