ABSTRACT
The reality of a society that has technological basis is to present itself as a scenario of constant changes in an extremely intense speed. These changes follow according to the evolution of innovative technological mechanisms that are created, and also by changing demands and capacities of users. The main objective of this study is to understand how, from the change in ways to create, distribute, access and consume content, libraries will remain a central point in the information landscape. We highlight in this article concepts related to the social role of the library, as well as the analysis of cases involving libraries and innovations. The conclusion of this study is that library's contribution starts from promote a culture of reading and expands for the promotion of other activities. More than ever, it is essential that libraries still develop actions that promote reading, but also relate these new services with creativity, local economic development and entrepreneurship. In the meanwhile were selected pathways that may serve as a guide for libraries today.
