ABSTRACT

We are developing an intelligent network news reader intended to help people use discussion-type network news more effectively. It is called HISHO and will assist users to find whole threads in Japanese discussions that are relevant to the users' interests. When users read the network news, they are usually unaware of their intentions and their searches are usually vague. It is difficult for users to find even one article that fits their interests. In this paper we define “Hot Topics” that can be used to guide users to interesting information in discussion-type newsgroups and we describe a method for getting titles of such “Hot Topics” automatically.
