Abstract
For those who use Basic, Cobol, Algol, or any other non-Fortran language, these articles attempt to outline the essence of Fortran, the things that ordinary Fortran users find most useful. Bells and whistles are ignored and preference given to a few essential concepts. Some personal opinions and questions are presented in the hope that readers will forward their views.
