Published:01 May 1988Publication History

ABSTRACT

Concepts of distance education is slowly getting popular in many countries. In addition, all the production centered organisations have identified the need for continuous technical education for their employees to keep them abreast of current trends in their technological fields. There has been higher attention towards combating obsolescence in technical areas. All these issues call for quick spread of knowledge, frequent exchanges of developed technologies, more new trends in training areas, quick update of teachers about new areas etc. The best tool for all these topics is ' electronic media '. Teleconferencing, desktop publishing, videodiscs are some of the electronic tools playing major role in many countries. The present article discusses their detailed role, emphasizes their use in education and identifies the problem areas for developing countries for implementing these newer techniques.
