ABSTRACT
It is becoming obvious that computing technology, economics, and applications are undergoing a revolution. The impact of this revolution is beginning to be felt in the university environment, and will transform the place of computing in the university by the end of this decade. This paper will analyze the changes we confront, outline a scenario for academic computing at the end of the decade, analyze the current financing of support services, isolate the problems that will be caused by current financing methods, and recommend an approach which capitalizes on the changed environment expected in 1990.
