VLSI - a challenge for system designers (Position Statement)

ABSTRACT

As design automation and computer design professionals, we have come to equate VLSI with a chip having 106 devices, or 105 random logic devices, or 105 gates, etc. However, the size argument does not explain what use the system designer will be able to make of such complex devices.
